Police have arrested two traffickers along with 19 deer skins at Sharankhola in Bagerhat. A team of Bagerhat District Detective Police recovered the leather from the deck of Monir’s house adjacent to Rayenda bus stand in Sharankhola Upazila around 2.45pm on Saturday (January 23). Preparations are underway to file a case against the detainees and hand them over to the court.
The arrested are Mohammad Ilyas Hawlader, 35, son of Mohammad Matin alias Moti Kazi of Rajoir village in Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat district and Mohammad Monirul Islam Sheikh, 48, son of Mohammad Mosharraf Sheikh of Bhadrapara village in Bagerhat Sadar upazila. Police recovered the skin from the deck of his house.
Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy said this at a press briefing at the Bagerhat District Police Conference Room on Saturday (January 23). Additional Superintendent of Police Mir Shafin Mahmud and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman were present at the time.
The police superintendent said that on the basis of secret information, district detective police in-charge Md Rezaul Karim and SI Gazi Mizanur Rahman came to know that deer skin was being sold at Monir’s house. In the middle of the night, members of the detective police raided Monir’s house and arrested Mohammad Ilias Hawlader and Mohammad Monirul Islam. At that time, some other unidentified persons fled. After searching the floor of Monirul’s house, the police recovered 19 skins from two bags.
After filing a case, the skin and the arrested traffickers will be handed over to the court. If any influential people are involved behind these criminals, police action has been intensified to take legal action against them. Besides, 3 days in Sharankhola, 2 days in Mongla, 1 day in Rampal and 1 day in Morg The operation is continuing, the superintendent of police said.
