Three arrested in Dumuria, including two UP members, on charges of extortion

Police have arrested two UP members on charges of extortion in Khulna’s Dumuria. Five lakh rupees of extortion was recovered from them at that time.

The incident took place at Andulia village in Raghunathpur union of the upazila on Monday (August 9) afternoon. The accused were sent to jail through the court today (August 10).

Police said Raghunathpur UP members Moniruzzaman and Abdul Haque, led by Raghunathpur UP members, snatched Tk 5 lakh from a man on Sunday night. Taking money in this way is tantamount to extortion. The victim has filed an extortion case against two UP members in the incident.

In Dumuria’s Andulia, two UP members and their associates snatched Rs 5 lakh from a man for allegedly having an affair.

Dumuria police arrested three people, including the two UP members, in a raid on Monday afternoon. They are Raghunathpur UP member Moniruzzaman Gazi (47), UP member Abdul Haque (50) and Andulia GM Russell (32).
According to local sources and police, a man from the same area was arrested and Rs 5 lakh was snatched from him while he was visiting a relative’s house in Raghunathpur village of the upazila.

Police arrested three people, including two UP members, and took them to the police station on Monday afternoon. After that, the police recovered five lakh rupees of extortion in their confession.

Dumuria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Obaidur Rahman said their men, led by UP members Moniruzzaman and Abdul Haque, snatched five lakh rupees from one person by creating fear and pressure. A case has been filed against six people, including two UP members, for extortion. The recovered money was confiscated on the list. The accused were sent to jail through the court on Tuesday. The accused have been remanded for 5 days in a wise court.
