On the occasion of “Mujibarsha”, the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time, the government decided to inaugurate 50 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in the first phase out of 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers under construction in every district and upazila of the country. Of these, there are two in Kishoreganj district, one in Kuliyarchar upazila and the other in Pakundia upazila.

Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina MP will inaugurate 50 Model Mosques and Kuliyarchar Model Mosque among the Islamic Cultural Centers as the chief guest from MP Ganobhaban on Thursday (June 10) at 10:30 am as per the pre-arranged date. It is known through an invitation letter of Ph.D.

Ahead of the inauguration, journalists visited the Kuliyarchar Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center under construction on Wednesday (June 9th) at noon and noticed that substandard tiles had been used in the mosque.

After installing these tiles, large cracks appeared in hundreds of tiles and broken tiles were used in some places. Which has been fitted with patches. In addition, the construction work of the mosque has been painted in many places without finishing.

It is learned that the contractor KPL Construction has been entrusted with the construction work of the Kuliyarchar Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center under construction at a cost of Taka 12 crore 51 lakh.

Concerned quarters feel that the image of the government is being tarnished due to the negligence and corruption of the contractors in this developmental work of the government.

In this regard, KPL Construction Engineer Abu Saeed told reporters that these tiles are bursting after laying. Our work is not over yet. New tiles will be installed before the work is completed.

When contacted, KPL Construction contractor Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed told reporters, “We know the matter.” This has happened due to the crisis of marble tiles in the country. We will pick it up and make it work on new tiles.

When contacted, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rubaiyat Ferdousi told reporters that he had visited the mosque under construction. In my view, I informed the representative of the Department of Public Works about the errors. They said the defective places would be re-worked.
