At Sharankhola in Bagerhat, Saiful Islam (35) broke the leg of an identified snatcher and lost two eyes. He was rescued from the crop field of Matherpar village in the upazila on Sunday (January 24) morning and was admitted to Sharankhola Hospital. The injured Saiful is the son of Nuru Mollah of Rajoir village in Khontakata union of Sharankhola. There are numerous cases against him in Sharankhola police station including theft, snatching, robbery and drugs.
Khontakata UP Chairman Zakir Hossain Khan Mohiuddin said Saiful has been carrying out various criminal activities in the area including extortion, theft, snatching, robbery and drugs for a long time. Recently, a man named Ibrahim was hacked and injured when he was stopped for stealing in Rajoir area. Besides, an intimate cow of Aslam Hawladar of the same area cut four tendons of a cow’s leg. Earlier, he forcibly picked up his daughter at Aslam’s house and married her. There are a dozen cases against him in Sharankhola police station. Saiful also escaped with a police handcuff and was caught climbing the walls of the Bagerhat jail. The locals were unhappy with Saiful’s repeated criminal activities. Many people in the area used to flee for fear of him. The incident has brought relief to the area.
Sharankhola Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Saidur Rahman said that in the early hours of the night, unidentified persons beat Saiful, broke his leg and left him in the field. Later, UP member of the area Jahangir Hossain Talukder rescued him and admitted him to Sharankhola Hospital. There are numerous cases against him in Sharankhola police station including theft, robbery, preparation for robbery and drugs. When Saiful’s father Nuru Mollah was informed about his treatment, he said he had no connection with the boy.
Dr Faisal Ahmed, a resident medical officer at Sharankhola Hospital, said Saiful had lost two eyes and a broken left leg. He has been advised to take Khulna for better treatment. But no guardian is available
