As a result of continuous rains and rising water in the river Jamuna, a 100-meter landslide occurred in the Sirajganj city protection dam. The city dwellers are terrified by this.
The landslide started at noon on Tuesday (June 29) in the old Jail Ghat area of Shahar Raksha Dam. In a moment, 100 meters of the riverbed has disappeared. Meanwhile, the Water Development Board has started dumping sand-filled geobags to prevent landslides.
Sirajganj Water Development Board sub-divisional engineer. Nasir Uddin said the old jail ghat section of the city protection dam suddenly collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. In a moment, about 100 meters of the riverbed has disappeared.
Water Development Board Executive Engineer. Shafiqul Islam said the soil had shifted from the bottom of the dam due to the continuous rains and the rapid flow of river water. Even two days ago we saw good conditions here. Today there was a sudden collapse. Sand-filled geobag dumping has been started to prevent landslides.
Meanwhile, Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner received the news. Farooq Ahmed, acting president of the district Awami League. Administration officials including KM Hossain Ali Hasan and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anwar Parvez visited the site.
