An emergency meeting on corona was held in the conference room of Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. At the end of the meeting, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, President of the Corona Virus Prevention and Combat Committee (City Corporation Level) and Hon’ble City Mayor informed the journalists about these decisions.
Rasik Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton said the death toll from corona has increased in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj than in the past. This time the Delta variant is very strong. When attacking someone, it doesn’t take long for the lungs to become ineffective. Considering all these, some new decisions have been taken. The ban has been extended in Rajshahi to prevent corona infection. Business establishments, shopping malls, markets, shops will be closed from 5 pm to 6 am instead of the previous 6 pm. It has been decided to stop the three-wheeler service from 6 pm. This time 5 means 5 o’clock, 6 o’clock means 6 o’clock, in this case indifference or negligence will not be tolerated. We have to keep the shops open for our livelihood, but we also have to save people’s lives.
He added that the random test of corona has started at 5 points of the city from this morning. It will be extended further from tomorrow. If samples from people gathered at different corners are found to be positive, they can be identified and sent home. Then he will not be able to spread the corona outside
Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton said the community would be more motivated to use masks and sanitizers by activating community policing committees and youth in the wards. Publicity will be increased to increase public awareness. Those who do not use masks, violate restrictions without reasonable cause, will be fined. Awareness about corona should be used by some of the violators.
He further said that from tomorrow, effective measures will be taken to prevent people from entering the city through Godagari, Tanore and Mohanpur police station areas adjoining Rajshahi. The situation will be monitored every day for the next 3 to 5 days. If coronary heart disease and mortality continue to rise, a severe lockdown will be declared for 14 days.
Responding to a question from reporters, Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton said the Hon’ble Prime Minister has said that both life and livelihood must be run. If a strict lockdown is given at this moment, then the mango business of 2 to two and a half thousand crore rupees will be damaged and the price of goods will also go up. It will be difficult for many poor and helpless people. We are not against lockdown, the situation will be closely monitored in the next 3 to 5 days. Then the decision will be taken at the next meeting.
He added that he is trying to increase the number of hospitals for the treatment of corona sufferers. In the meantime, the Divisional Commissioner has spoken to the Health Minister about the launch of Sadar Hospital, and he has agreed. Sadar Hospital will be built as soon as possible to provide treatment to the patients. Whether the mission hospital can be taken again is also under discussion. We all have to fight together in this fight against corona, there is no alternative.
