Police have arrested Raju Biswas, 35, accused in the murder case of van driver Shukur in Abhaynagar, Jessore.
He was arrested from the area adjacent to Eidgah Maidan in Jessore at 11am on Sunday. Raju Biswas (35), son of Idris Ali Fakir alias Idu Fakir of Dhopadi village in Nawapara municipality, is the sole accused in the murder case of van driver Shukur. Case No. 04, Tang – 04-04-21.
Meanwhile, Raju’s lawyer has claimed that Raju, the accused in the murder case, has not been arrested; Raju Biswas alias Tutu, 35, was snatched from a lawyer on his way to surrender in Jessore court.
Though discussions were going on in Abhaynagar Upazila including Jessore all day, the police did not admit to arresting Raju till the afternoon. The news was spread in various online media that the accused had been snatched by the miscreants. Later in the evening, when the Daily Nawapara contacted the Abhaynagar Police Station, the Abhaynagar Police claimed that Raju had been arrested on the basis of secret information. Raju Biswas is the sole accused in the murder case of van driver Shukur Ali of Dhopadi village in Abhaynagar upazila.
It is learned that on April 3, a man named Shukur Ali went to Raju Biswas’s van-rickshaw repair shop. He then repaired his own van. Shukur Ali left on the way back in the evening after paying 30 rupees. On his way back in the evening, Raju Biswas wants money. There was an argument between them about this. At one point, Raju Biswas got excited and hit Shukur Ali on the head. When the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared him dead.
Shukur Ali’s wife Anwara Begum filed a case in the name of Raju Biswas. Raju Biswas had been on the run since the incident. Raju Biswas’ lawyer Tajmilur Rahman Sardar Swapan said, “Raju Biswas came to me yesterday to surrender in court.” After preparing the necessary documents including the signature of the power of attorney, I took him to the court from the Bar Association. As we approached the street in front of the Judge’s Court, a group of people surrounded us. They then got into a scuffle and forcibly took Raju Biswas in a car. When I tried to stop them with my identity, they left with threats.
“I went to the court and informed the judge,” he said. At the same time, I am seeking the help of the administration to rescue Raju Biswas. Talking to Abhaynagar Police Station OC (Investigation) Milon Kumar Mandal, he said Raju, who had been on the run for a long time, was not snatched but was detained on a paved road near the central Eidgah Maidan in Jessore on the basis of secret information. The accused is in police custody. He was handed over to the court today.
