Khulna Representative: Md. Shahidul Islam.
The account assistant (currently in charge) of the LGED (Engineer) office in Tala, Satkhira, has been accused of bribery with unlimited corruption. Accounting Assistant Mostafizur Rahman has to pay from Tk 1,000 to Tk 50,000 per file. He has become a millionaire overnight by working as a small assistant accountant. Made a luxurious house. Let’s go to the zamindar’s stall.
He treats everyone, including the contractor, rudely, regardless of who he is.
If you don’t give a bribe, no file will move. He has earned crores of rupees by showing various excuses and taking the contractors hostage. Contractors unhappy with his oppression.
If a contractor admits his inability to pay as per his demand, he keeps his file stuck day after day and keeps on rotating it in different ways.
When the contractors protested, Mustafiz boasted, “There is no problem if I am not locked up.” I will stay in Satkhira district.
Wherever I go, I get chairs. You can’t do anything to me. I will manage everything with money. On condition of anonymity, the contractors complained that Mustafiz charges from Tk 500 to Tk 50,000 per file, which means that if you want to take a bill of Tk 100,000, you have to pay Tk 1,000 to Tk 3,000 in the file.
Otherwise, he started making various excuses including disrespectful behavior with the concerned contractor. The contractors further said that Accounting Assistant Mustafiz held the contractors hostage in the upazila where he was working and built a sanctuary for his rampant bribery trade.
If he does not give the money as per his demand, he puts the contractors in extreme suffering. The contractors are unhappy with his use.
He sought the intervention of the higher authorities and the intelligence department, including the administration, to take disciplinary action against him for his corruption and bribery trade.
Upazila Engineer Rathindra Nath Haldar told this reporter, “I heard the matter from you.” If he is corrupt then I will discuss the matter with the above officer. If found guilty, disciplinary action will be taken against him.
