Loading sand at the entrance of Sholmari Swiss Gate in Dumuria, Khulna: tied to drainage.

Md. Shahidul Islam.Khulna District:

A sand trader from Khulna has set up a sand-filled bulgate in front of the sluice gate of Sholmari 10 Vent on Thursday at a time when the Dumuria area of Khulna is in danger of flooding due to heavy rains. This is creating a huge obstacle in the drainage of water at low tide.

It is learned that Sholmari river is the only way to drain the water of bill robbery including Rangpur, Gutudia and Dumuria of the upazila. Water flows through this river to Kazibachha river. The low-lying areas of the area have already started flooding due to heavy rains during the current monsoon season. At this time, a sand trader’s sand ballgate has been erected in front of the gate of 10 Vent at Sholmari Ghat. Due to which the proper drainage of water at low tide is being obstructed. In this regard, sand trader Enayet Hossain said that the ballgate is tied at low tide. I will remove it at high tide. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Abdul Wadud said, “I have talked to the sand trader and he told me to remove it quickly.”
