Police have arrested three people, including a large quantity of Indian Nasir bidi gambling equipment, in an anti-drug operation in Tahirpur, Sunamganj, after calling 999.
The arrested are Malu Mia, son of late Sabbir Uddin of Puranghat village in Baradal Uor Union of the upazila, Mohammad Hanifa, son of Abu Jaher of the same village and Sujan Mia, son of Kudrat Ali.
Incidentally, on Sunday night, the consumers called ‘999’ on their mobile phones and complained that drug and gambling parties were being set up in two tea stalls and grocery shops in Satata Bazar of Puranghat village in Uor Baradal Union of the upazila.
In the wake of such allegations, members of Badaghat police outpost of Tahirpur police station raided the tea stall of Salauddin alias Nikhil, son of late Rustam Ali, chairman of Satata Bazar in Puranghat village, and confiscated 1320 Indian tea from Mamun Mia Talukder’s son. Nasir seized bidis, cash, gambling cards, Ghafla, two mobile phone sets.
Although three people were arrested in the operation, Salauddin alias Nikhil and Mamun Talukder managed to escape.
On Monday, two separate cases were filed with the Tahirpur police station, said SI Mohammad Almach Mia, duty officer of the police station.
