NA Rabiul Hasan Liton, Panchagarh:
Import and export through Tentulia Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh has been stopped due to fear of being infected with Indian Corona variant including black fungus.
The decision was taken by the Importers-Exporters Association due to fears among locals.
This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the locals and upazila dwellers as the entire Tentulia upazila including Banglabandha has Indian border on three sides. Import and export activities through the land port will be closed from Sunday to next Thursday, the notification said.
Mehedi Hasan Khan Babla, president of the Banglabandha Land Port Importers and Exporters Association, said imports and exports through the port would remain closed from Sunday (May 30) to Thursday (June 3) as per the decision of people’s representatives, traders, workers and locals. Concerned people including the deputy commissioner have been informed about this in writing.
The matter has also been reported in writing to the Phulbari Importers-Exporters Welfare Association in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India.
However, Kazi Al Tariq, administrative officer of Banglabandha Land Port, said the port was open due to lack of government instructions. However, if the traders do not import and export through the port, then the activities of the port will be stopped.
Residents of this border upazila were worried after the Indian ‘variant’ of Corona was identified in the country a few days ago. Especially the locals concerned about the port are worried. That is why they informed me more than once for the protection of themselves and the area.
