CCTV cameras have set fire to a gold shop in Gafargaon.

CC cameras of a gold shop in Gafargaon have been set on fire. After a burglary at a gold shop in Gafargaon, Mymensingh, all the furniture of the shop was burnt as the CC camera cut its wire and set it on fire to destroy the evidence. It has caused a loss of about two and a half laks taka. The incident took place at around 2.30 pm on Saturday at Bhowmik Jewelers at Sohrab Market at Jamtala in the municipal town.

According to local sources, a group of thieves of Bhowmik Jewelers at Sohrab Market at Jamtala intersection in the municipal town stole about 70 gold nose flowers and 12 heavy silver ornaments from the show-case at around 2.30 pm on Saturday. However, the thief could not break the chest inside. During the escape, the CC camera cut the wire and set it on fire to destroy the CC camera footage. All the furniture of the shop including CC camera was burnt.

Later, when the neighbors saw the smoke and called the shop owner and entered, they could understand the incident of theft and fire. Upon receiving the news, the police team on emergency duty came to the spot at night.

Mr. Shailendra Chandra Bhowmik, proprietor of Bhowmik Jewelers, said the fire did not spread to nearby shops as it was a roofed market. It was all burned inside the shop. The group of thieves could not break the ark. However, the fire, including gold and silver ornaments, caused a loss of about two and a half lakh rupees.

Gafargaon Police Station OC (Investigation) Mirza Anwarul Abedin said, “No one has complained to us about this.” However, the officer in charge of emergency has visited the spot after receiving the news. He said necessary steps would be taken according to the complain.
