Md. Samasher Zaman Bhuiyan (Riton), chairman of Belabo Upazila Parishad and president of Belabo Upazila Awami League in Narsingdi district, has been removed from his post in the public interest for allegedly embezzling the honorarium, travel allowance and hospitality allowance of two vice chairmen. The directive was issued in a circular signed by Mohammad Shamsul Haque, Deputy Secretary, Upazila-2 Branch, Local Government Division, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, on February 14, 2021.

On the issue, newly ousted Upazila Chairman Zaman Bhuiyan Riton said that the Upazila Vice Chairmen had given one month’s honorarium at the nearby Faridpur Mazar as promised during the election. I have raised it and spent it on the development of the shrine. But I did not embezzle any money. I am the chief servant of that shrine. Now they want to plunder and gain political advantage. I also wanted to return this money more than once. But they did not take.
