A 7-month-old housewife named Sumaiya Akhter Tama (20) has mysteriously died in Abhaynagar. Abhaynagar police recovered the body from the Upazila Health Complex on Monday.
The body has been sent to Jessore morgue for autopsy. A regular case has been filed against the deceased’s husband Reazul Islam Sujan. Housewife Sumaiya Akhter Tama is the daughter of Abdul Jalil Mollah of Kota village in Chalishia union.
Sohag Hossain, brother of the deceased, said, ‘About love, his sister Tama got married to Riazul Islam Sujan, son of Mizanur Rahman of Kadirpara village in Payra union of the upazila a year ago. Riazul’s family could not accept the marriage as he married a girl from a poor family. That is why after the marriage, her brother-in-law Riazul used to rent the house of Mozzamel Hossain at Wapda corner of Nawapara with his sister Tama.
He added, ‘Her brother-in-law Riazul is an unemployed and vagabond. He used to torture his sister for money. Last Sunday (July 18) he sent his sister home for 10,000 rupees. With great difficulty, the father paid two thousand rupees and Tama left for Nawapara that afternoon. At midnight, Riazul called and said that Tama had committed suicide by hanging herself.
Abhaynagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Shamim Hasan said on his mobile phone that the body of a housewife named Sumaiya Akter Tama was found hanging around her neck. The body has been sent to Jessore morgue for autopsy.
After receiving the autopsy report, it can be said whether it was a murder or a suicide. However, regular cases have been filed against Reazul Islam Sujan on the basis of the allegations of the victim’s family. Accused Riazul has been absconding since midnight on Sunday.
