All the cattle markets in Panchagarh are closed due to non-compliance with hygiene rules

NA Rabiul Hasan Liton, Panchagarh District:

The administration has moved away from the decision to keep the cattle market open in a short range amid tight lockdown. It has been decided to close all the cattle markets in Panchagarh due to non-compliance with hygiene rules. As a result, there will be no cattle market anywhere in the district from Sunday.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila administration.

It was decided to operate the hat in compliance with the hygiene rules to a limited extent. But after receiving complaints that the hygiene rules are not being followed in the cattle market, the district and upazila administration has decided to close the cattle market until further instructions on Saturday afternoon.

The main animal market of the district is Rajnagar two days a week (Thursday and Sunday). Restrictions started from day one in Panchagarh like the rest of the country to prevent upward transmission of corona. Despite the restrictions, the crowds at the cattle market caused outrage in various quarters.

Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Amirul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Arif Hossain, Municipality Mayor Zakia Khatun, Hat lessee Md. Mosharraf Hossain and others were present at the meeting.

After the meeting, the Upazila Nirbahi Officers of the five Upazilas of the district have been instructed to keep the cattle market closed subject to discussion.

Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Mohammad Amirul Islam said there was no separate instruction to close the cattle market. Even though the restrictions were followed in Panchagarh like all over the country, it was becoming difficult to enforce the hygiene rules in Rajnagar cattle market. Therefore, it was decided to close the Rajnagar cattle market from now on through discussions with the people concerned.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Zahurul Islam said that corona infection is increasing day by day in the district. All livestock markets in the district will be closed for the time being to prevent corona infection. Every Upazila Nirbahi Officer has been instructed to implement the matter.
