Dumuria police have arrested Emon Sheikh, 22, accused in the Nazrul murder case in Maguraghona of Khulna’s Dumuria upazila.
On Saturday (July 7), the victim made a statement under Section 164 in the wise Atal.
According to the police, a team of police led by Dumuria Police Station SI Shahinur Rahman and Maguraghona Police Outpost in-charge SI Habibullah arrested him from Monirampur Police Station area of Jessore district around 3:30 pm on Friday. He is the son of Ashraf Hossain Sheikh of Hogladanga village in Maguraghona union of Dumuria upazila.
Nazrul Islam, 50, was killed in an attack by Emon Gang on Tuesday afternoon, August 3, during a debate over the branches of a shirish tree. His daughter Mukta Khatun (19) was seriously injured in the incident.
The deceased was identified as Mahatab Sheikh of Hogladanga village under Maguraghona union of Nazrul upazila.
A murder case has been filed against 4 people at Dumuria police station in this incident. According to the case, Ripon Sheikh (25), Emon Sheikh (22) and Manun Sheikh (18), son of Ashraf Sheikh of Hogladanga village of the upazila, and his wife Halima Begum (47) were involved in cutting the branches of a Shirish tree.
Nazrul got involved in a debate with Ganga.
At one stage, they attacked Nazrul with an iron rod and bamboo sticks in their hands with the intention of killing him and his family members.
He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries at around 8:30 pm.
The body was buried at his family graveyard after an autopsy at Khulna Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.
Dumuria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Obaidur Rahman said Asmi Emon was arrested from Monirampur area after searching for information. When he was produced in the wise court on Saturday, the accused gave a statement under section 164. After the deposition, the court sent Asmi to jail. Police are continuing their operation to arrest the other accused in the case.
