Police question Judith Heard over leaked nudes
Judith Heard recorded a statement at Kampala Central Police Station and pleaded to be forgiven, claiming that it was her boyfriend that took the pictures and that the nudes are part of her work as a model but not for social media publication.
MORALITY – Socialite Judith Heard was Tuesday afternoon taken in by Police for questioning in connection with her nude photos and indecent video that were leaked on social media in May.
The Pornography Control Committee in May stepped up crackdown on immorality in relation to the pornography law, sending arrest notices for several persons, majority of them women, whose nude photos and video clips were leaked to the public.
Judith Heard, whose photos were leaking for the second time, was away attending fashion events in Europe, and therefore didn’t answer to summonses.
But ahead of her social media party in Kampala next month, Judith Heard returned to the capital to put a few things together.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Heard, whose video of her having sex with an unidentified man leaked in May, was arrested after she refused to honour the summons issued over three weeks ago.
Owoyesigyire said the socialite was being detained at Kampala Central Police Station where she was earlier interrogated.
He said Heard will appear in court once investigations are complete.
Police said that Heard has become the third person to be arrested over leaked nudes since a General Enquiries File (GEF 28/2018) was opened in June on orders of the anti-pornography desk at the Ethics ministry.
Police revealed that Heard recorded a statement at Kampala Central Police Station and pleaded to be forgiven, claiming that it was her boyfriend that took the pictures and that the nudes are part of her work as a model but not for social media publication.
She reportedly said she has pending modelling trips to Europe and thus needed to be set free.
However, Police was not convinced about this by press time.
The government, through the Pornography Control Committee, has in recent months stepped up efforts to control the sharing of pornography in the country.
The committee works closely with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA) to block websites featuring pornographic content.
Earlier this month, Lillian Rukundo, a Uganda Christian University student, and blogger Ashburg Kato were earlier arrested and charged with breaking computer use law and remanded to prison.
Jack Pemba, Desire Luzinda, Zari, Bad Black, Patience Nam and Don Zella were also issued with arrest warrants over the same allegations.
