Lule summons 20 for Olympic qualifiers
FOOTBALL | Twenty players have been summoned to the Uganda Kobs team for the upcoming 2019 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan.
The Kobs have been drawn with South Sudan for the first round with the winner facing Tunisia in the second round.
The team’s head coach Matia Lule included two players from the under-17 side that recently qualified for AFCON. They are Onduparaka Junior team’s Abdul Wahid Iddi and Kitende’s Robert Kitabalwa.
A big chunk of the other players have been promoted from the Uganda Hippos (under-20) team.
The fixtures will be played on November 12 and 18 in Kampala and Juba, respectively.
Forty-three teams registered to take part in the three-phase qualifiers. Seven teams will join hosts Egypt for the finals in November next year. The top three from the final tournament will qualify for the Tokyo 2022 Olympic games.
