CORRECTION | City lawyer Paul Mugoya Wanyoto was not taken into Police custody on Wednesday or any other day for that matter as Crime24 reported yesterday.
In an article under the headline, ‘City lawyer Wanyoto finally arrested over robbery,’ that this news website published on Wednesday, we indicated that Wanyoto had been arrested after more than a year of evading the long arm of the law following allegation that he participated in the kidnap and extortion of Korean businessmen at gunpoint.
However, we have since verified further with Police and other sources that the city lawyer is a free man.
The ‘fake news’ was passed to our reporter by sources but we failed in our responsibility of verification and brought the person of Wanyoto into disrepute.
As a professional media, it is part of our ideal to take responsibility where we err and, for the erroneous article, we apologise to Wanyoto and all those offended by the story.
Crime24 assures its readers that it will maintain the highest ethical standard possible in journalism whether at fault or not. For this, the website has retracted the erroneous article.
The website reached this decision after learning of the error and has taken the responsibility to apologise to Wanyoto and retract the story without his demands.
