Driver of High Court judge shot dead
A policewoman who guards the home of Judge Musa Ssekaana has handed herself in, saying she had accidentally shot Ismael Mayiga.
JUDICIARY – Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which a driver of high court judge was shot dead Tuesday morning.
Ismael Mayiga was shot in the stomach by a policewoman guard at the home of High Court Civil Division judge Musa Ssekaana.
The policewoman, Daisy Nagasha, is said to have opened fire shortly after Mayiga arrived at 7am on Tuesday to start his duty.
Mayiga was pronounced dead upon arrival at the International Hospital, Kampala, where he had been rushed for medical attention.
“Nagasha, who is attached to VIPPU, reported that she had shot Mayiga accidentally,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire when contacted by this website.
“Our teams have visited the scene, recovered the gun and the body has been taken to Mulago Referral Hospital for postmortem,” he added.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
Owesigire said Nagasha had handed herself in and is helping Police in its investigations into the incident.
Also Police Spokesman, Emilian Kayima, confirmed the incident, adding that the policewoman immediately handed herself to the Police, saying the gunshot was accidental.
Judge Ssekaana is one of the new recruits in the Judiciary and also involved with the Kayihura aides. He denied this group bail.
He is also the one who ordered the immediate production of Col. Atwooki Ndahura, who was being held by ISO, in court.
