CORRUPTION | A senior police officer attached to Mbale was yesterday picked up for soliciting a bribe of Shs200, 000 from a suspect he had arrested over the weekend.
ASP Williams Tumusiime Amon is said to have arrested a one Martin Khisi, a resident of Namakwekwe Mbale Town Council, and ordered him to pay Shs500,000 if he wanted to get back his freedom.
Khisi did not have the money and the two negotiated the bribe the officer was demanding down to Shs200,000.
Khisi’s relative later reported the matter to Police Professional Standard Unit (PSU) office in Mbale.
According to sources in Police, officers from PSU swung into action and rounded up Tumusiime from Sinamakosa gardens where he was waiting to receive his bribe.
He was arrested and is now being detained at Mbale CPS, the source said.
PSU spokesperson SP Vincent Sekate confirmed that Tumusiime is in Police custody.
“We have arrested C/ASP Tumuusiime, the Oc Namakwekwe in Mbale, for demanding and receiving shs.200,000 from Martin Khisi at Sinamakosa Gardens in Namakwekwe,” Sekate said.
