Man demolishes neighbour’s house over land dispute
Police say the suspect has been using similar method to grab people's land
LAND DISPUTE–Police in Kira municipality Saturday arrested a man accused of demolishing his neighbor’s house over land dispute.
Kampala Metropolitan Police say Juma Kayondo knocked down Yusuf Ssemakula’s house in Kitoko, Kira Municipality, with intention of grabbing his land.
Met Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said in a statement that Kayondo committed the offence on July 8.
“He claimed that he was the rightful owner of the property but our investigation reveals that Kayondo has been grabbing people’s land through the same method,” Owoyesigire said.
Police on Sunday said further investigations into the conduct of the suspect have since revealed that he has been selling land with fake land titles to many unsuspecting buyers.
“Upon his arrest, people have come up pinning Kayondo for fraudulent land transactions, for example, one David Asubu who claims to have paid Shs900 millions to Kayondo and Hajat Aziza Shs15 million,” Owoyesigire said.
The incident has left Police suspecting that there could be more cases reported against the suspect. The Regional CID KMP East has called for all files opened against Kayondo from Kira Police Station to be transferred to the region headquarters at Jinja Road Police Station for proper management of his case.
Kayondo is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station on case CRB 433/2018 and will be charged in courts Monday, the Met Police statement said but did not indicate what charges would be preferred against the suspect.
